Jen and Ed Get Married | Milwaukee Wedding Photographer

This past Saturday, Jen and Ed got married! I know Jen from school, we graduated together from Alverno College. We kept in touch and after Ed proposed, Jen asked me to shoot their wedding to which I replied "Of course!" They are a great couple with wonderful friends and family. Saturday was a blast and I am so glad I got to share this special day with them.
On a personal note, Jen and Ed-thank you so much for believing in me when it felt like no one else did. I am so happy for you both and wish you lots of love and happiness (that means smiling Ed!)!! Congrats lovers!

Declan About Town - Milwaukee Portrait Photographer

Yesterday after an exciting day at his reading class (let's learn Baby Signs today!) the temp was a balmy 42* so Declan and I decided to do a photo walk in our town, Port Washington. Port Washington is home to about 11,000 and a gorgeous marina. There are no boats there right now but geese and TONS of goose poop but it is still pretty. We made a pit stop at our favorite coffee shop Smith Brothers Coffee House for a snack before we made our way all the way up Main Street and back down.

Look at that face!

I Heart Faces | Milwaukee Children's Photographer

This week's I Heart Faces challenge is "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes-Anything but a Face" and I knew exactly what photo I was going to enter. This photo was taken during Declan's first trip to the beach this past summer. He wasn't sure what to think of it but I can't wait to take him back. I love those little toes!

Finally Friday

Last Sunday, we went to Illinois for our niece's baptism. I am Dani's godmother and so proud to have the job. Sarah, my middle sister, did a fabulous job playing photog during the ceremony. She was cracking up because I was literally posing every chance I could. What?! I gotta work it!

We ditched cable this week. Kyle and a small panic when I told him what we were doing but he is okay now. I feel so free! I should settle down, it has only been gone for 6 hours...

Ugh, I got hit with a fierce cold this week, seriously. I haven't been this sick in a long time. Feeling much better now, but a little congested still but nothing like Monday-Wednesday! Kyle and Declan seemed to have dodged the bullet.

This coming weekend is jam packed! I have a jewelry party Saturday afternoon, shooting an event Saturday night, bridal meeting Sunday morning and then the BrewCity Roller Derby match! Thanks to Sara M for inviting me!

Here is your dose of the D-Man!

Semi-DIY Camera Bag

All of a sudden, I have outgrown my small camera bag. I knew my stuff wasn't really fitting anymore but it really hit when I was getting ready for a shoot and I had to lug around 2 extra bags to contain all my gear. Oops! So, I set out to find a rolling bag with dividers...I found a bunch but they were $300+ and the color options were black. That is it. Black. Snoozefest. I was then set on making my own. I found a couple blogs that showed how so and so made their own bag but ripping out the lining, stuffing with batting, etc. Yea, that seemed like too much work...

So, then I stumbled onto an old photography forum post and saw that someone recommended Calumet inserts. I knew I didn't want a black bag so I went to Target and found this super cute Embark rolling carry-on bag. And it has blue on it! Perfect!

"Oh my, what a gorgeous bag you have!"

Holds my Shootsac perfectly!
Ta-da! Shazam! Presto! Super cute rolling camera bag!!

Shayla and Tom | Milwaukee Wedding Photographer

The snow fairies had had their way with us several times, having to reschedule our original meeting and first shoot date but finally, Shayla, Tom and I met up at Grant Park in Oak Creek today. The snow from our little blizzard last week was still pretty and new and there was a nice little top coat falling all day. The flakes were perfect!! The snow was knee high or higher in some spots but Shayla and Tom were total troopers, especially Shayla who isn't really used to all this snow.

Enjoy your preview and I can't wait for your June wedding!

Extra, Extra, Read All About It | Milwaukee Wedding Photographer

A few days ago, I put a teaser out there that big things were going to be happening for Something Blue Images and here is the news...

First, there is NO bun in the oven. This tin roof is not rusted. I am not with child, well sure, Declan is here with me but that is it. Sorry family, Declan will be an only child for the foreseeable future. Lord almighty, I could not handle another child right now.

I am now going to be one of the featured photographers and columnists for Port Washington-Saukville Patch!! Every other week, I will have a photo gallery of local images, showing the people and lifestyle of our quaint little town. My weekly column will be called "The Great Escape" (I mean Hello?! Best Steve McQueen movie EVER!) and will feature Ozaukee County businesses and how they offer women ways to escape life in fun ways.

I am so excited to be writing again, for reals. I was the Editor-in-Chief of my college's newspaper and that feels like eons ago. I will post links when my article and gallery are up and running, which should be the middle of next week.

For this weekend, Lia Sophia party (gots to be accessorizin'), meeting a local TV personality for an upcoming story, hanging and banging with Declan and an engagement shoot on Sunday. I think there is something else going on on Sunday too, what could it be? Mmmmmmm....

New Snow Removal Business | Port Washington Photographer

Declan got a surprise birthday present in the mail today! It was a lawn mower! Although, with the weather, I told him it was a snowblower like Daddy's. He loves watching Kyle snowblow, I do too in fact (because that means I'm not doing it! HA!) He has been sick all week with a nasty cold but he really seemed to enjoy our little playtime outside.
The newest art edition to the Wright house was our Little Friends of Printmaking Lost inspired print. Kyle and I were HUGE Lost fans and I saw this at an alternative craft fair, I wanted it. It is Charlie in the submarine and just before he met his watery grave he wrote "Not Penny's Boat" on his hand to warn Desmond. Ah, so intense!! The colors match our room perfectly but Kyle liked it better in our living room so there is it! Love it! And a big thanks to Picture Perfect for framing it.Honey child, I thought the shelving unit we got for his birthday from my sister and dad would help with the clutter and toy madness that is slowly taking over our entire house. This scene happens on a daily basis. Why?! Why must he take out everything and then ditch to play with the dog bowls or the tupperware in the cabinet? I love this baby. I do not love this mess.
Last weekend of relaxation before I have a shoot every weekend for the next month or so. Cannot wait!! Bring it.

The Good With the Bad

Sunday, Sunday, Sunday. We went to a friend's house for a Packer party. And yes, we were the only Bears fans there (there was a Cowboys fan there too!). Yadda, yadda, you know how the game ended. BUUUUUUUUUUUUT, I brought taco dip!! I am going to spill the recipe, well ingredient list because really, you don't make anything. So easy and DEEEE-LISH!!
1 14.5 oz of vegetarian refried beans
1 small container of Sendik's guacamole (sorry people who don't live in the Milwaukee area, you will have to figure something else out because their guac is THE BEST!)
1 medium container of Daisy sour cream (I use 2/3 of the container)
1 pack of taco seasoning (I use 1/2 the packet-mix with sour cream)
Shredded cheese (we use Sargento's Mexican Blend)
1 bag of shredded iceberg (or you could do it yourself)
1 small can of sliced black olives (optional)
Taco Chips (we recommend many brands, contact for further info)
Layer appropriately and enjoy!
Crap, now everyone knows how easy it is...
Declan on Friday. Look at that hair. Crazy wild.

Friday Fun

Well, I have said it a million times to the Smith Brothers Coffee baristas that it is never too cold for iced tea. I fully retract my statement. While I did have some of my home brewed Citron, I just cannot go outside today. Even the pups aren't going out, they dash out, do their business and are right back at the door in no time. Declan was supposed to have a make up swim class today but it was canceled. So, we are having an indoor day!

I am sending out a contract today to shoot a wedding in Maryland, I couldn't be more excited! I am one wedding away from my minimum goal of five weddings for 2011, so that is encouraging. So if you know anyone who is gettin' hitched, send them my way. Something Blue Images

Random Thoughts
-Modern Family--Are. You. Kidding. Me?! I love it.
-Alterra on Oakland is now open in Shorewood. DANGEROUS having one so close to work!
-Kyle and I took Declan to Just 4 Fun on Wednesday (What? You, Maggie, germaphob?! Yes, me. And yes, we sanitized like crazy when we were done.) and we had the joint to ourselves! Declan played with all of the basketballs, he is really into things he can throw right now (not limited to balls as Colby found out). A couple kids came and started to play basketball and Declan sat down and watched! It was too cute. Here his is showing off his climbing skills. I didn't bring my camera with so iPhone photos will have to do.

Snow Day | Milwaukee Portrait Photographer

Almost 5 pm and it has been snowing since 7 am. Declan and I hung out around the house until I started going crazy so we bundled up and I shoveled the driveway. The snow that is falling isn't that light, fluffy snow...no sir! This is the break your back, have to kick the shovel along the driveway snow. Shovel, you ask? It is 2011 lady, don't you have a snowblower?! I really need to start listening when Kyle explains the snowblower to me. He has given a handful or so of lessons, each time I listen enthusiastically and nod like I am soaking in all the information. Nope, negative, nada. I mosey on over to the snowblower, look it over, kick the wheels and sigh. Shovel it is. I plopped Declan in the snow and cleared the way. I did notice that as I got closer to the street, there is a pretty severe taper, making the entrance wide enough for a bicycle. But that all changed when I plowed the minivan down the driveway and cleared the rest of the snow! Oooops!

Ch-ch-check it, yo! New blog layout!! You like it? I am still figuring out how to use it (the photos are supposed to display larger...and there is a slideshow that needs to go on top-coming soon) Don't really have any other hard business news to share right now, too much is still up in there air. Stayed tuned!!
Not the best photo of Declan but LOOK AT THOSE CHOMPERS!
